This short essay explores the letterpress-specific artworks of Pavel Büchler as an example of what I call inmediate writing. It distils a set of arguments and commentaries offered at greater length elsewhere.
The works discussed were all featured in a group show curated by David Thorpe at Flat-Time House in London in summer 2021, entitled 'Ants and Grasshoppers: Reflections on the anxious object'. This short essay was written for the eponymous catalogue, co-edited by Thorpe and Gareth Bell-Jones.
